BioChar
Transforming Forest Waste into a Sustainable Future
Every year, millions of tons of forest waste—fallen branches, dead trees, and other biomass—are piled up and burned, releasing harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere. At the same time, farmland and forests are facing increasing challenges, from declining soil health to the rising risks of wildfires. Our project offers an innovative solution that tackles these issues head-on: turning forest waste into biochar, a powerful soil amendment, while reducing wildfire risks and improving the health of our ecosystems.
What Is Biochar?
Biochar is a carbon-rich material created by heating organic matter like forest debris in a controlled, low-oxygen environment. This process, called pyrolysis, locks carbon into a stable form, keeping it out of the atmosphere for hundreds of years. But biochar doesn’t just help fight climate change—it also improves soil by enhancing water retention, boosting fertility, and supporting healthy microbial life.
Our Solution: Mobile Biochar Systems
We’re developing a mobile biochar production system that can be brought directly to forests and agricultural lands. This means we can process forest slash where it’s collected, eliminating the need for large-scale transportation. The biochar is then mixed with nutrient-rich compost to create a powerful soil amendment that helps farmers, ranchers, and forest managers improve the land while capturing carbon in the soil.
